ANIMAL LIFE AT THE DORDOGNE
Dordogne has more to offer in this respect than many French rural areas. The region is mostly limestone countryside with mixed forest and farmland habitats above the main river valleys and dramatic cliffs lining the rivers in places. With a bit of local knowledge, timing and luck, a good range of species can be found, including some of the more sought-after ones.
Little BustardThe Little Bustard is a rather large bird. They breed in southern Europe and in central Asia. Though they are not native in the Dordogne- they are very silent, beautiful birds.

Dartford WablerThe Dartford Warbler is a typical a bird from the warmer parts of western Europe. It is a very small, rare bird.

Red DeerRed deer can be found in most of the forested areas of the Dordogne. They are also found east of France. The total population in France; in 2013 is estimated at about 165,000.
